What to Look For
Health Signs
- Clear eyes, no discharge
- Clean ears
- Healthy coat, no bald patches
- Active and playful
- Clean rear end
Temperament Tests
- Approach test ? Does puppy come to you willingly?
- Restraint test ? Hold gently on back. Calm = easygoing, struggle = dominant
- Sound test ? Clap hands. Curious = confident, cowering = shy
- Retrieve test ? Toss ball. Chasing = high drive, ignoring = independent
Red Flags
- Breeder won't show parents or living conditions
- Multiple litters available at once (puppy mill sign)
